JOB SUMMARY The American Sportfishing Association (ASA), a D.C. Metro area trade association representing sportfishing manufacturers, retailers and stakeholders, is seeking a Manager of Education and Engagement to work with Communications and Trade Show and Membership staff. The position reports to the Vice President of Communications but will also coordinate closely with the Department of Trade Show and Membership.
In this new position, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing a robust education program by researching, coordinating and marketing educational programming (seminars, webinars etc.) as well as identifying issues, topics and presenters relevant to ASA’s members. In addition, the Manager of Education and Engagement will create and curate content as well as coordinate with staff and outside partners to repurpose existing materials targeted to specific audiences within the membership.
The manager will work with the Communications team to create promotional materials to increase engagement in the association. Promotion of these materials will be coordinated with digital and creative managers and distributed through social media, newsletters, marketing pitches and posts in support of the association’s new education offerings.
The ideal candidate is comfortable speaking with members, is confident meeting and interacting with prospective members and is willing to expand relationships in the sportfishing industry. In addition, he or she has strong written and verbal communications skills and is comfortable with website communications. A working knowledge of PowerPoint, social media, marketing software and electronic newsletter publication is also required.
Must be able to work independently; appropriately and accurately represent the association to its members; support concurrent activities and coordinate with multiple staff members; show initiative and self-motivation; demonstrate strong organizational skills; and display professionalism and poise.
Responsibilities
Oversee all educational materials development in collaboration with members of the Communication and Membership teams and outside vendors as needed.
Develop marketing plan for education activities to optimize audience generation and strategize with the Communications team on its implementation.
Manage master calendar of upcoming education programs with individual marketing plans in coordination with other Communications and Trade Show program managers.
Draft, review and copy edit marketing materials to ensure clear, concise and consistent language in alignment with the association’s education goals and target audiences.
Provide content for ASA’s newsletters that help to promote our calendar of events.
Coordinate updates to ASA’s website in conjunction with the Content and Digital Marketing manager to ensure new educational opportunities are prominently displayed.
Lead and/or assist with new and ongoing education collaborations with outside organizations.
Organize and compile reports of education activities for Board of Directors meetings.
Travel to provide on-site assistance and management of education programming as needed (e.g., ICAST, Sportfishing Summit) as well as to market education content to members.
Support ASA’s team in promoting the association and its many activities and events.
Write and develop marketing materials, curriculum, newsletter content and other materials as needed.
Coordinate with the Communications team to ensure digital and other sources of content are relevant, accurate, timely and regularly shared.
Serve as a valuable and supportive member of the Communications team.
The successful candidate will have:
BS/BA degree
3-5 years of education, training and/or membership engagement experience with an association or with a related non-profit or agency.
Demonstrated understanding of engagement techniques to enhance and improve the membership experience.
Strong oral and written communications skills.
Knowledge and ability to edit/proof documents for error-free work.
Strong ability to prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines on multiple tasks and in a team environment.
Ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with ASA’s members and outside partners.
The ability to work and manage schedule in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with the entire Microsoft Office Suite of products.
Knowledge and understanding of social media platforms.
Knowledge of databases and communications software is a plus.
Detail oriented and exhibits a high degree of accuracy.
Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate well between the Communications and the Trade Show and Membership departments.
