NICET is the industry leader offering more than a dozen specialty certifications in the fields of Fire Protection, Transportation, Construction Materials Testing and more. The career track certification provides credentialing for entry- to senior-level technicians and is a measure of qualifications relied on by authorities having jurisdiction, government entities, employers and contract specifiers.

The Certification Test Editor assists NICET in the development and maintenance of fair, valid, reliable, and legally defensible certification programs. These credentials ensure earners have demonstrated their technical mastery, can provide higher quality goods and services, and, ultimately, the public enjoys a higher degree of safety and protection.

JOB PROCESSES:
Assist the Development team with the development of new certification programs and maintenance of existing programs, including but not limited to the following tasks:
Write, analyze, and edit technical test questions and other materials.
Understand and apply style guides, including updating and maintaining program-specific style guides.
Process candidate exam comments to the appropriate item and respond to the candidate. Answer general customer inquiries via phone and email.
Confirm that complete and accurate information about test items has been recorded in the test banking software, update all references according to NICET reference guide.
Confirm that graphics are clear, owner approved for use and links to items have been correctly entered.
Coordinate the identification, approval, and listing of reference/resource materials. Find or confirm needed information in technical source materials.
Track the progress of assigned test development and maintenance projects, ensure that all assigned tasks have been completed according to NICET standards.
Assist with test publishing and perform QA/QC on exams ready for publishing
Prepare written materials as needed in support of NICET marketing and other related functions.
Provide guidance to stakeholders on the use of NICET certification programs.
Work with SMEs to develop and maintain practice tests.
Maintain SME documentation to ensure currency and completeness, set up meetings, track SME CPD points (based on participation) and assist with SME recognition.
Maintain the security of confidential test, candidate, and vendor information.
Occasional travel.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in technical writing, English, Communications, or other related specialty and minimum of one-year work experience in technical concepts and language, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in proofreading and technical editing.
Experience in working with committees and/or volunteers preferred.
COMPETENCIES:
Strong organizational skills to work effectively in a team setting on concurrent processes and projects to meet established goals, deadlines, and quality standards. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to write, analyze, and edit technical test questions and other materials for clarity, cognitive level, and appropriateness of technical content. Strong spelling and proofreading skills with excellent attention to detail, and ability to utilize relevant information in style guides and technical resource materials. Initiative and the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines
Ability to write collateral program materials for print and web.
Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, volunteers, subject matter experts (SMEs) and stakeholders to accomplish NICET goals and objectives. Prior experience of working with SMEs is a plus.
Solid computer software skills, including proficiency in Microsoft office products, database software, internet/email/zoom, item authoring, and banking applications.
