The assistant executive director leads and helps implement sponsorship, membership and marketing/communications efforts. It’s an executive level role that serves as the second-in-command for the Association.
This is a full-time, salaried employee position. This position works remotely.
Responsibilities
Management (5%)
Acts as a proxy for the executive director as needed in their absence.
Assists in training volunteers on processes, systems and procedures.
Engages in professional development through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts and attending professional development.
Membership (38%)
Oversees planning, management and implementation of HighEdWeb membership initiatives, including membership applications process and member retention and recruitment efforts.
Coordinates volunteers and vendors to help deliver, promote and support member benefits.
Develops regular reports on membership metrics and recommends new member programs and services.
Sponsorship (38%)
Develops, implements and maintains the HighEdWeb model for sponsorships.
Serves as the primary contact for all sponsors.
Recruits partners, builds relationships and manages the sales processes for all Association and event sponsorships.
Reaches partnership income goals while striving to keep sponsor discounts below 25%.
Advocates and promotes sponsors to event attendees, members and board.
Coordinates volunteers and vendors to deliver sponsor benefits, including shipping, booth selection and setup, marketing, and requests management.
Marketing and communications (19%)
Leads and plans the content strategy for the organization, which includes setting content goals, building journeys, choosing content types, defining channels and managing the editorial calendar.
Manages tracking systems to measure and evaluate effectiveness of marketing efforts.
Guides and trains content creators to ensure effective and efficient communications.
General duties
Contributes to an environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
Adheres to the HighEdWeb Code of Conduct.
Travels to events and facilities as needed to coordinate association activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Supervision
The assistant executive director is supervised by the executive director and supervises volunteers and contractors.
Position information
Employment will require basic criminal record and credit history background checks at Association expense.
Start date: ASAP

Required skills and abilities
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated proficiency in relationship building, content strategy and project management.
Proven problem-solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
Ability to use and adapt to various technologies, including customer relationship management (CRM) systems, web content management systems (CMS), Google applications and tools, project management systems, etc.
Ability to travel as needed.
Eligible to work in the United States of America.
Education and experience
Required
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience).
Minimum two years of leadership work experience in a role that encompasses sales, recruitment, retention, marketing or similar fields.
Clear results of basic criminal record and credit history background checks, as conducted and reviewed by the board.
Preferred
Related degree or certification in sales, business or marketing.
Experience serving or working in higher education.
Experience managing staff or volunteers.
Knowledge of the association, particularly through service as a volunteer or leader.
