The American Political Science Association (APSA) seeks a candidate to fill a full-time non-exempt position in its Finance department. The Staff Accountant II supports the Director of Finance and the Accounting Manager in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance Department which includes the performance of accounts receivable, payroll, monthly bank reconciliations, and assisting with the monthly closing process. This is a hybrid role with the expectation of at least 1 day in our Washington, DC office.
Reports to the Director, Finance
This position is considered non-exemptunder the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay.
Performs functions associated with member sales transactions in AMS (Association Management System, NOAH) software and Accounting (Intacct) software, including thorough reconciliation and ensuring proper revenue classification
Responsible for reconciling and maintenance of A/R outstanding balances
Record and reconcile deferred revenue of membership dues
Process semi-monthly payroll in ADP, including salary, tax and deduction updates via timely communication with Human Resources
Perform monthly bank reconciliation
Responsible for the maintenance of the fixed asset and associated depreciation schedules and making the monthly journal entries; insure proper recording of new purchases and disposals.
Prepare monthly invoices for all tenants
Assist in the monthly closing process
Perform such other accounting, financial, or administrative task as may be required by the Director of Finance and Administration or Accounting Manager.
Perform all other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor degree in Accounting, Business or a related discipline.
2+ years’ experience in a similar role
Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Strong analytical and accounting skills.
Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages for both general ledger, Sage Intacct and NOAH preferred.
Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
Excellent verbal communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with high level of difficulty.
The individual will be expected to work with minimal up-front guidance and take ownership of their work product.
