Wheeling and Prospect Heights, IL Chicago Executive Airport (CEA) seeks visionary, entrepreneurial executives with strong management skills to lead a vibrant airport ecosystem and implement a master plan. Chicago Executive Airport is a general aviation 24-hour operation and is the third busiest airport in the State of Illinois in terms of itinerant operations (trips further than 20 miles) and the fifth busiest airport in Illinois in terms of total operations. The airport is an intergovernmental cooperative between the City of Prospect Heights, IL and the Village of Wheeling, IL. The seven-member Airport Board includes representatives appointed by the elected bodies of both communities. The Airport Board Chair is a joint appointment of the two communities. Executive Director candidates must be highly collaborative and team-oriented managers possessing excellent oral and written communication skills, project management abilities and the creativity and enthusiasm to envision the future for the airport. Please note the following:
CEA covers 412 acres, has three active runways and is home to 325 aircraft of which 57 are corporate jet aircraft. CEA is the busiest reliever airport in the Chicagoland area and is in the top ten of corporate airports in the country. In 1986, the airport became publicly owned by the City of Prospect Heights and the Village of Wheeling. Between 1989 and 2009, CEA focused on safety and bringing the airport into compliance with FAA regulations.
The airport has 12 full time employees including an Operations Director, a Finance Director and an Economic Development Director. The airport’s annual revenues are $5.3 million and the airport operates in a cash positive position. The Airport has no taxing authority and does not rely on the two owning communities for revenue. Revenues are drawn primarily from fixed based operations.
The CEA Master Plan is nearly completed and provides a roadmap for the CEA to capitalize on its considerable assets. Both Wheeling and Prospect Heights have identified areas of development or redevelopment immediately adjacent to existing airport property. Projected industry growth trends indicate business aviation will continue to be the rising force within general aviation both nationally and at CEA.
Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration airport administration or a related field as well as five years’ leadership/management experience. A master’s degree and/or Accredited Airport Certification is valued. Experience in growing and effectively leading airport operations or other public sector operations is highly desirable.
