The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) is seeking to add an experienced Senior Vice President of Corporate Relationsto our team of high-performing professionals.
In this position, you will develop and execute ADEA’s corporate relations strategy as the lead point of contact representing ADEA externally to our valued corporate members, who are our key dental industry partners.
With judgement enriched by your years of corporate relations experience, you will bring a thoughtful, creative approach to sustaining ADEA’s existing corporate relationships, growing our corporate membership and increasing their engagement. Working to continually bring value to our corporate industry partners energizes and challenges you. You are experienced in developing and operationalizing sponsorship opportunities that are valuable to both our association members and our corporate industry partners. In collaboration with the Senior Manager of Corporate Relations, you’ll develop a renewed sponsorship retention and expansion strategy and oversee prospectus development and submission. You will enjoy building and stewarding important industry relationships and will travel frequently to meet corporate members in person to build these relationships. You will also work with corporate foundations and other philanthropic groups to secure commitment and support for ADEA’s strategic initiatives. This position works collaboratively in partnership with the ADEAGies Foundation but does not oversee the Foundation’s activities.
The Senior Vice President, Corporate Relations is a member of ADEA’s Leadership Team. This is an in-house position in ADEA’s Washington, DC office. The Senior Vice President of Corporate Relations reports to the Senior Scholar in Residence and supervises one direct report.
Creates and executes ADEA’s comprehensive, proactive development plan that expands and enhances corporate relationships with industry partners in the dental education field. Directs, coordinates and manages activities related to engaging and securing corporate sponsorships and philanthropic support for ADEA activities benefitting members.
Evaluates, recommends and executes stewardship strategies for current and prospective corporate members aimed at increasing corporate memberships and engagement.
Identifies new donor prospects from corporations, including corporate foundations, and other philanthropic groups or individuals and maintains records and meets benchmark outputs for fundraising goals.
Develops opportunities to engage non-traditional corporate partners in ADEA’s work (e.g., non- “dental” companies) including the financial sector, other consumer products, etc.
Develops highly competitive proposals for prospects and seeks to create collaborations that take advantage of diverse corporate member/corporate foundation goals that are in alignment with ADEA’s goals.
Effectively engages the ADEA Corporate Council’s expertise and feedback to benefit ADEA and its member institutions.
Serves as the staff liaison to the ADEA Corporate Council, and with support from the Senior Manager for Corporate Relations, manages governance of the ADEA Corporate Council, including adherence to the bylaws, nominations, voting and elections, and various meetings.
Advances ADEA’s interests by establishing and maintaining engagement and stewardship of corporate members and prospects and by researching and identifying sources of support, proactively seeking opportunities to generate new proposals based on corporate guidelines and interests.
Works in partnership with the ADEAGies Foundation to coordinate funding strategy to support the annual ADEAGies Awards Gala.
Works with the Division of Finance and Operations to ensure that sponsorships and other financial commitments are properly accounted for, monitored, and reported on in a timely manner.
Collaborates with ADEA’s Membership staff on all membership-related activities (corporate member benefits, member invoicing and recordkeeping) related to corporate members.
Works to transition ADEA’s current sponsorship structure from a” cost-basis model” to a “value of services model” that will help funders and ADEA stakeholders better understand the value of participation and ensure the sustainability of revenue and relationship.
May chair or organize committees that advance ADEA’s strategic initiatives that touch the corporate council and other ADEA stakeholders. Prepares and presents information relevant to internal and external stakeholders and performs other tasks as needed.
Desired First Year Outcomes:
Demonstrate effectiveness and creativity in design of FY22 proposals and sponsorship opportunities.
Relationship building within the organization and with key corporate relations stakeholders.
Develop initial draft of strategy for corporate council engagement within first six months.
BA degree preferred. 2 years of corporate relations experience required, preferably in a dental or health-related environment.
Experience with senior-level accountability for corporate relations in an association strongly preferred.
Knowledge of and proven success with corporate philanthropy development.
High level of personal initiative, with a need for achievement and ability to bring creative new ideas while honing current approaches.
Enjoyment and satisfaction in overcoming barriers to growing and sustaining financial support for member programming.
Ability to give effective presentations in person or virtually.
Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills.
Excellent communication and high-level customer service skills; ability to be an ambassador for ADEA with its industry partners in the dental field.
Strong attention to detail and active listening skills to ensure corporate partner needs are understood and met. Ability to listen to and effectively partner with ADEA staff and consultants to achieve goals.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
Ability to engage effectively with new technology.
Availability for extensive travel, including some weekends, is required.
