ASTRO, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, is looking for an individual with an interest in health policy to join our team that supports ASTRO’s advocacy efforts dealing with coding development and guidance, private insurers and Medicare coverage issues.
As the Health Policy Coordinator, this individual will oversee and coordinate the receipt, tracking and development of responses to radiation oncology coding questions received from physicians, the American Medical Association (AMA), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Contractor Medical Directors, managed care companies, and other sources. This individual will make semi-annual updates to the ASTRO Radiation Oncology Coding Resource and coordinate the ASTRO Coding and Coverage Seminar. They will also assist with efforts to educate and inform members about coding issues and new initiatives related to Medicare payment rules; as well as supporting the activities of ASTRO Code Utilization and Application Committee (CUAC).
Major Duties and Responsibilities

Serves as staff liaison to the CUAC, which involves the review of and response to radiation oncology coding questions received from physicians, the AMA, CMS Contractor Medical Directors, managed care companies, and other sources.
Leads efforts to update and modify ASTRO’s Radiation Oncology Coding Resource on a semi-annual basis. This includes collecting recommended changes from ASTRO members, providing CUAC and Health Policy leadership with recommendations regarding content changes, and engaging with ASTRO’s editing and graphics team to ensure changes are accurate.
Assists in content development for the ASTRO Coding and Coverage Seminar, as well as other meetings and webinars. Interfaces with presenters and other departments within ASTRO to assist in the production of live meetings and webinars. Writes marketing materials (i.e. web exclusives) to promote live meetings and webinars. Manages live meeting and webinar production process to ensure deadlines are met.
Reviews and provides summaries of potential impact of proposed National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) PTP and MUE edits.
Provides content for ASTRO’s publications including ASTRO News, ASTROgrams, ASTRO website and other publications including writing relevant policy articles and coding materials to keep ASTRO members current on coding and coverage related matters. Additionally, ensures that material for the ASTRO website is accurate and kept up to date.
Monitors the Federal Register, MedPAC, CMS, OIG and other regulatory websites for issues related to radiation oncology.

Successful candidates will have:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, in a related field preferred.
Minimum of two years of related work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with extensive experience working with Excel.
Experience and proficiency in researching and synthesizing information; experience with association management systems, membership databases, abstract management systems a plus
Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong command of grammar and excellent proofreading ability, ability to communicate effectively with staff, management, leadership and members.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail and prioritize in order to meet critical deadlines.
A professional, customer-service focused demeanor; be self-directed and have an innate curiosity for seeking out answers to unknown questions.
An interest in healthcare, government or advocacy.
Desired Qualifications include:
AAPC or AHIMA coding certification.
Experience in coding and coverage, including familiarity with reimbursement; knowledge of health insurance and managed care issues.
Knowledge of coding issues.
Experience with medical association or radiation oncology practice.
Knowledge of health insurance and managed care issues.
Familiarity with Medicare regulations.
A passion for researching, digging into information and problem solving.
