POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for working with colleagues in the Research & Policy (R&P) area and other key partners to develop and sustain IMA’s role as a thought leader in research that focuses on the development of best practices, tools, and continuous learning opportunities in the field of management accounting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Serve as liaison to the IMA Research Foundation (IRF). Work closely with the Foundation Chair on setting the research agenda, project managing approved initiatives, assessing the value of project proposals, negotiating contracts, improving the funnel of project proposals, and improving the time to market of approved projects. This function requires interface with academics and practitioners and supervision of the Research & Academic Relations Administrator. • Serve as Editor of the IMA Education Case Journal (IECJ), including overseeing the case submission/review process administered by the Research & Academic Relations Administrator and working with case authors to get their cases ready for publication. Work closely with Associate Editor volunteers to promote and improve IECJ. • Work with others on the R&P team to define and implement leading-edge, relevant research programs for our members. Serve as a resource to others internally and externally by supporting their research needs and working collaboratively as needed. • Oversee the completion of external research studies consistent with IMA’s research program, potentially including those performed for external sponsors and IMA partners, by identifying relevant and timely topics, identifying potential researchers, negotiating research contracts, and project managing the delivery process. • Personally conduct leading-edge thought leadership research in areas consistent with IMA’s research agenda. • Communicate the research program and agenda via publications, webinars, formal and informal presentations, etc., to a diverse body of internal and external stakeholders in industry and academia. • Direct and supervise the Research & Academic Relations Administrator, who is responsible for administering IRF programs, the IECJ case submission process, and various academic award and scholarship programs.
• Minimum of 4 years practical business experience in the management finance and accounting profession in the areas of decision support, planning and/or control. • Minimum of 4 years experience in research or equivalent technical position. • Must be creative, decisive, and have an inquiring mind. • Degrees / Certifications: PhD in Finance or Accounting preferred; MBA or MS-Accounting will be considered. CMA and/or CPA highly desirable. • Professional communications skills, including presentations and writing to audiences of all levels. • Experience using or writing teaching cases, applying for research funding, and negotiating contracts desirable. • Excellent organizational and project management skills. • Limited travel outside Global Headquarters (Montvale, NJ, USA) office. • Remote working (working from home) will be considered.
