Professional association located in Bethesda, MD is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager. The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) represents 24,000 members, has a staff of 30, and an annual budget of $8 million. NASP represents school psychology and supports the work of school psychologists to enhance the learning and mental health of all children and youth.
The Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for general ledger accounting related to our publications operations, PREPaRE program and online learning center. Duties include reconciling and maintaining related general ledger accounts for these programs, monitoring and tracking financial data for various projects and providing other accounting and finance support as needed. The Senior Accounting Manager reports to the COO. This is an exempt level position.
Reconcile monthly sales and inventory; update monthly financial summary reports for book publications, royalties, PREPaRE curriculum, and online web catalogs for professional development offerings.
Maintain and monitor publication accounts in accounting system (review transactions for accuracy, post entries, batches, etc.); assist with other finance department support as needed.
Troubleshoot and resolve problem orders and discrepancies; develop and maintain documentation for processes.
Monitor and track revenues and expenses for various projects to support budget development.
Review and post batch work.
Reconcile other accounts and projects as assigned.
Assist with preparation of schedules for audit and tax preparation.
Serve as backup for other accounting functions such as accounts payable and payroll.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting.
Five years or more years of proven accounting experience preferred and an understanding of financial operations and the impact on the general ledger. A primary focus of this position is ensuring that sales and other publications related transactions are properly recorded in the accounting system as well as identifying and resolving discrepancies. A solid understanding of basic accounting principles and financial reporting standards for non-profits is required. Experience with non-profit organization(s) desirable.
Proven accounting software experience (sales, inventory, A/P and G/L modules) and payroll software (ADP WorkForce Now).
Proven attention to detail and the ability to stay highly organized, multi-task, set and meet realistic goals and timelines are key to success in this position.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Experience with association management software, preferably iMIS.
Experience with Office 365 and SharePoint (advanced Excel skills; proficient in Word).
Effectively work with staff, both individually and in a team environment.
Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality required.
Minimal travel required.
Key Internal Relationships: Director of Publications, Director of Financial Operations, Chief Operating Officer and other publications and finance staff.
Key External Relationships: Customers, vendors.
