AIGA, the professional association for design is the largest and most influential design association in the United States. 18,000 members strong with 75 local and regional chapters, and 200 student groups on college campuses nationwide—AIGA advances design as a professional craft, strategic advantage, and vital cultural force.
AIGA’s national office is located in New York City, however, 100% telecommuting (remote) from a U.S. location is possible with the requirement to be in the NYC office once per month for team workshops and meetings.
We are currently seeking an innovative and creative Membership Specialist with three or more years of membership experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will be customer service oriented with excellent collaboration and communication skills to effectively communicate with our members.
You will support and coordinate the membership department strategy, while ensuring the current membership processes and procedure, workflows, and system requirements are effectively managed. Collaborating with other internal teams and working closely with the Director of Membership you will support member engagement, member recruitment, and retention efforts. The Membership Specialist will report directly to the Director of Membership and play a critical role in advancing membership processes and priorities for the membership team and implement improvements and efficiencies for an improved member service experience.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Manage operational details of membership services and benefits
Ensure national’s messaging is aligned with member concerns as well as organizational goals
Collaborate with internal teams to develop and support new member benefit opportunities
Promptly and effectively respond to membership inquiries
Communicate member needs and concerns with management and recommend solutions
Work closely with colleagues in database administration to optimize the member database and ensure accuracy of data and reporting.
Collaborate with IT to ensure CRM (Fonteva) database procedures are accurately documented
WHAT WE REQUIRE:
Bachelor’s degree with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Exceptional customer service skills, with a membership-focused mindset
High degree of organizational skills to manage processes, systems, and timeline for all membership mailings and email communications, including acquisitions, renewals, upgrades, invitations, and general communications.
Minimum of 3+ years of account services experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization
Collaborative and energetic with an entrepreneurial spirit
Ability to work well in a virtual team environment is essential
Computer proficiency (Microsoft, Apple, Google office products), CRMs (Salesforce, Fonteva) and association management platforms
Ability to travel to national AIGA offices, events and/or conferences
