In this newly created role as the Senior Manager of Professional Practice, you will help to establish the National Contract Management Association (NCMA) as a thought leader in the acquisition and contracting practice, monitoring and predicting emerging trends. You will learn the needs of NCMA membership as well as the greater contracting community. Your work will support NCMA staff in accomplishing the board of directors’ four imperatives: membership growth and retention, chapter health and wellness, brand engagement, and establishing NCMA products and services as the “gold standard.” Your work will help create communities of practice with industry leaders and our members.
This is a highly visible role where you will promulgate NCMA standards among staff, members, customers, volunteers, and the community. To be successful, you will conduct research to gain insight and will monitor media and publications to stay up to date on thought leaders, changes, and challenges for the community. Reporting to the chief professional development officer, you will ensure that our products, services, and training are relevant, of the highest quality, and responsive to the ever-evolving needs of our organization.
Internal teams will view you as a go-to resource for how to best serve and communicate with our members through podcasts, blogs, education and training. Responsibilities of the Senior Manager of Professional Practice
Establish NCMA as a thought leader in the acquisition and contracting practice.
Monitor and predict emerging trends and their potential impacts on members, customers, training products, event offerings and materials serving the needs of the practice community and NCMA members.
Understand and communicate to colleagues the needs of the varied segments of our community and membership.
Conduct surveys and other research to inform colleagues, board members and committees, and the broader practice community regarding various attributes of the work, workforce, and best practices.
Conduct professional research and produce or support professional articles and videos.
Build relationships with leaders, subject matter experts, and rising professionals within the practice community.
Act as staff liaison to the Professional Development and Certification Committee.
Work with marketing to support branding within practice.
Lead projects related to thought leadership and standards.
Oversee the effective and efficient operations of NCMA’s certification processes to ensure compliance with ANSI standards.
Conduct business case analyses for new projects including projects that expand ANSI certifications.
Supervise the certification specialist/manager.
Qualifications of the Senior Manager of Professional Practice
Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree in business, contracting, supply chain management, risk management or related field is preferred.
8 to 12 years of government contracting and/or acquisition experience is required.
Training and experience in conducting research and analysis is required; practice leader experience is preferred. Published works is a plus.
