American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) has an excellent opportunity for an Accounting Manager.
Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Accounting Manager is responsible for areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This position addresses a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.
Financial and Operational Analysis:
Prepare monthly and annual financial operational reports. Provide managers with the resources and tools to make better business decisions. Support budget and forecasting activities. Evaluate internal and external performance compared to the budget and prior years. Ensure that performance is reviewed with both operational & financial perspectives. Resource to other Accounting/Finance team members and provide analytical tools and training as required.
Oversee Accounts Accounting Area:
Manage Accounting function. Ensure man accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close. Ensure the monthly and quarterly bank compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner. Ensuring adherence to GAAP requirements and compliance. Develop and implement new policies and procedures necessary to follow internal controls and enhance department workflow. Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
Financial Services Liaison:
Meet periodically and quarterly with managers to review financial/operational results and analyze activities to define actions to be taken. Partner with departments in determining appropriate action steps to further financial performance. Refinement of performance measures.
Reconcile General Ledger Accounts:
Analyze assigned accounts; comparing balances to general ledger; investigating discrepancies and identifying root cause; supervising adjustments.
Works with VP Finance to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit. Provide external auditors with needed information to adequately evaluate the financial information based on generally accepted accounting principles.
Effective Use of Technology:
Assist the VP, Finance in implementing a new financial system. Coordinate and oversee all system upgrades, conversions, and training staff.

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related disciplines
Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience; management experience required
MBA and/or CPA (preferred)
Experience in computerized accounting systems and budgeting and budgeting systems
Non-profit experience (association is a plus)
Strong verbal and written communications
Demonstrated time management, multi-tasking, and project management skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Project management and process improvement experience (preferred)
Microsoft Office Proficient, with advanced Microsoft EXCEL skills
