The National Grants Management Association is a growing membership organization, providing benefits and services to support highly specialized, full-lifecycle grant management professionals. NGMA is an internationally recognized credentialing agency, certifying grant managers in content expertise. In recent years NGMA has grown to 22 chapters, and has more than 1890 members located all over the world.
Reporting to the Director of Operations, NGMA’s Communications Manager position primarily manages events throughout the year, the largest being the association’s annual conference in DC. This position also plays a key role in NGMA’s communications and marketing, contributing to NGMA’s brand management, awareness, and engagement. This person is expected to keep abreast of knowledge, outside developments, and trends, in order to maintain industry expertise in events and communications.
NGMA is a remote organization, based out of Sterling, VA. Applicants must live within 45 miles of Washington, DC and be able to work full-time from their home and regularly travel to meetings in the MD/VA/DC area. Applicants must also be willing to travel outside of the region up to 20% of the year.
Event Management 75%
In coordination with NGMA staff, the NGMA Board, and Member Committees, manage the production of NGMA’s annual conference: oversee agenda development, manage presenter logistics, work closely with board and member committees on approvals and educational components, manage AV and catering, organize and oversee hotel accommodations, coordinate staffing and volunteers, manage on-site event logistics including registration, oversee all event marketing and printed materials, execute all event advertising, administer the conference’s website and phone app, and other duties including post-conference administration and wrap-up.
Manage the organization’s webinars and regional trainings, including confirming presenters and managing logistics, working closely with board or member committees, managing presentation software, managing educational credits for attendees, overseeing registration lists, managing surveys for events, monitoring emails and webpages, executing marketing, and other duties.
For all events, provide regular statistics on event metrics and report on progress towards pre-determined goals.
Content Management 10%
Collaborate with NGMA staff to develop and enhance content for a variety of media (both internal and external collateral)
Contribute to content production for newsletters and email blasts
Alongside NGMA’s graphic designer, strategically post on and monitor NGMA’s social media accounts
Contribute to consistent messaging and tone through all communications of the NGMA national brand to members, prospective members, and stakeholders
Collaborate with other departments on content strategy and new content offerings
Marketing Management 15%
Work with the Director of Operations to develop and implement a marketing and brand strategy to encourage brand recognition and adoption across multiple channels
Ensure website and external-facing materials are user-friendly and meeting member needs
Utilize web analytics and incorporate data and benchmarks into projects
Work with NGMA staff to develop and execute member marketing campaigns to grow and retain membership, and to promote the CGMS credential
Work to develop marketing strategies for and create engaging themes for the annual conference and other events
Alongside our graphic designer, utilize Google Analytics and other platforms to demonstrate marketing ROI and make NGMA staff aware of important trends or areas of improvement
May be asked to travel to chapter events or conferences around the country and exhibit or present on behalf of NGMA.
Associates or Bachelors degree in marketing/communications or related field, plus 2 to 5 years professional experience in events, marketing, and/or communications
Strong customer service abilities
Relevant conference, event, and/or trade show experience, specific to managing NGMA’s annual conference
Strong oral and written communication skills, and excellent editing and grammar proficiency
Proficiency with MS Office and typical software systems
Positive, entrepreneurial spirit, including the ability to seek new and creative solutions to challenges
Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently, and manage multiple projects simultaneously with precision and attention to detail while continually finding ways to improve processes to produce higher quality events with more effective results
Experience with association (membership) organizations
Experience working remotely
Experience remotely managing people and events
Proven knowledge and experience with web content management, marketing, and strategic communications
Proven experience in implementing best practices in digital communications
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.), video editing, and Google Analytics
Experience with Memberclicks and/or Higher Logic, or similar association management systems
