The Director of Communications and Content sets the direction for APICS’s internal and external communications, handles media relations, and oversees digital and print publications including the APICS magazine, blog and e-newsletters. The Director of Communications and Content directs and oversees internal and external communications to ensure messaging is accurate, aligned, consistent and brand-compliant. He or she oversees content and communications programs that effectively describe, promote and position APICS as the go-to resource for the supply chain industry. He or she works on strategic and high-visibility assignments and counsels the leadership team on communication strategies that advance key business objectives and increase brand awareness.
The Director of Communications and Content will play an integral role in communicating the launch of a new brand in 2019. She or he will seek to further the message, mission and business success of this launch through the creation, distribution, and promotion of valuable supply chain information—information that enables both individual and corporate members, and the supply chain community at large, to advance supply chain excellence.
This position will be located in the Chicago, Illinois headquarters. The Director will supervise a staff of two individuals and manage certain vendor relationships.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Create and execute communication plans for large and strategic initiatives and change management efforts that require careful communication.
Develop and execute integrated, strategic communications plans to position APICS as the go-to leader for the supply chain industry a leading authority on supply chain management.
Strategize and implement content and execution plans, in multiple formats, which drive engagement and brand awareness.
Execute and drive public relations campaigns including creating and sustaining strong media relationships with both Tier 1 and Tier 2 media as well as specific vertical and industrial trade publications
Responsible for executive and board-level communications.
May direct or write critical employee communications.
Envision and implement best practices for conveying supply chain news and information and communicate that vision to members of the publications team.
Ensure that communications to our various audiences are brand consistent and compliant.
Contribute thought leadership and corporate content on both the APICS.org and ASCM.org websites.
Create messaging architecture and messaging mapping for brand content pillars.
Develop event and presentation roster for executive team including messaging themes/pillars specific to the event and speech writing as necessary.
Set external communication objectives in collaboration with marketing leads and executive team.
Direct corporate advertising, media relations and publicity activities, and is the marketing liaison for the academic research team.
Oversight of social media plans, campaigns, programs and platforms.
Draft CEO executive communications including memos, presentations and speeches as requested.
Assist with creation and distribution of board-level and executive team communications as needed.
Oversee an aggressive schedule of print and digital publications and the team that produces this content.
Integrate advertising, driving revenue growth through innovative online and print offerings.
Leverage position as editor-in-chief to serve as a spokesperson on supply chain issues.
Oversee the corporate marketing department budget, and communications and publications team; assigning management responsibilities as necessary.

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in English, journalism, communications or related field.
Minimum of 8 years of marketing, communications and/or public relations experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strategic thinker able to drive valuable content to members and customers.
Experience leading a communications team which manages, digital content, social media, public relations and publications
Strong problem-solving capabilities.
Strong writing and editing abilities.
Ability to collaborate and work well with a variety of colleagues.
Adept in MSOffice, including Word, Outlook and Excel.
Knowledge of CRM, CMS and ESP/marketing automation platforms
Familiarity with supply chain, logistics and operations management is a plus.
