The Membership Manager is a member of the Business Development Team and contributes to the advancement of local public health practice by performing a range of responsibilities related to NACCHO’s programs including general membership, partnerships with State Associations of County and City Health Officials (SACCHOs), member advisory groups, and the Model Practice Program. . Responsibilities include the management of all membership operations, including ensuring efficient, responsive and cost-effective processes and procedures. The Membership Manager is responsible for helping to promote a “member-centric” culture among NACCHO staff; guiding designated recruitment, retention, and membership marketing campaigns; helping to ensure consistent and integrated messaging, branding and promotion of NACCHO’s products and services; overseeing the dues revenue process, the membership files and the membership area of the website; supporting the Membership Advisory Committee, the Council of SACCHOs, and the Past President’s Council; managing NACCHO’s member affinity programs; and other duties as agreed. This position may supervise a specialist/associate specialist/and or other assistant.
NATURE OF WORK
This is a managerial position requiring initiative, teamwork and solid managerial, analytical and technical skills. The work involves partnerships with co-workers, members, vendors, and other external groups, and requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment. The Membership Manager will collaborate closely with fellow staff and NACCHO members to centralize, streamline, and improve NACCHO’s membership activities and ensure superior service to local health departments.
WORK DUTIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Providing comprehensive management of NACCHO’s membership operations including developing, implementing, and evaluating successful member recruitment, retention, and marketing campaigns.
Playing a direct role in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the NACCHO Membership Engagement Plan by overseeing the strategies and tactics, monitoring progress towards key milestones, and contributing new and innovative ideas for ongoing membership engagement.
Develops and grows dues and non-dues revenues.
Maintaining and developing partnerships with SACCHOs and collaborating with state associations on joint meetings, membership initiatives, education and training, and national advocacy for local public health
Overseeing the NACCHO Model Practice project that annually awards local health departments for innovative and effective public health practice including work plans, timelines, submission and selection process, and promotional materials.
Providing management oversight for NACCHO advisory committees, including the yearly committee rotation process and volunteer recruitment campaign and liaising with staff leads for advisory groups.
Assisting in the development of member activity reports that communicate and reinforce the value of NACCHO membership for individual local health departments.
Developing, implementing, and evaluating new membership benefits and affinity programs and marketing those programs to members and prospective members.
Coordinating regular active and inactive member research with other NACCHO staff to measure member perceptions and needs and assisting in the analysis of member research and participation data to identify trends to inform staff and NACCHO volunteer leadership as well as current and future membership programs and services.
Developing, documenting and refining internal processes and procedures that ensure effective and efficient member and customer services to local health departments.
Promoting the development and use of virtual communities for membership, SACCHOs, and other organization workgroups and committees.
Developing and managing a membership corner on the NACCHO Sharepoint site to inform and engage NACCHO staff.
Responsible for the maintenance of membership-related Website pages.
Implementing membership billing processes and ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of all membership invoicing.
Overseeing the processing of membership payments, maintenance of membership database records and hardcopy membership files.
Helping to ensure consistent and integrated messaging, branding and promotion of NACCHO’s products and services and providing oversight of the NACCHO brand store;
Generating queries needed for NACCHO communications to members and for reporting purposes.
Serving as a liaison to the Membership Advisory Committee; the Council of SACCHOs; and the Past President’s Council.
Serving as a liaison with Finance, IT and other program staff across NACCHO, ensuring that member inquiries and concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
Participating on crosscutting teams relevant to membership and marketing (e.g., Web Team, Marketing and Communications Team).
Coordinating activities for and staffing the NACCHO booth at conferences and other meetings.
Performing other duties as agreed.

Excellent understanding of association membership issues and practices including recruitment, retention, and marketing
Experience with database administration or data management
