The American Dental Association is dedicated to promoting the public's health through its initiatives in research, education, advocacy, public awareness and the development of standards. We have an exciting opportunity for a Vice President, Publishing.
The Vice President, Publishing is responsible for providing strategic vision, leadership, and oversight for the editorial, advertising and other business operations of the ADA Publishing Division. The mission of the Publishing Division is to produce and distribute -- at a profit and across all media channels -- high-quality content that informs the dental profession about the latest scientific, socioeconomic and political developments affecting dental practice and oral health care. Current primary publications include JADA (produced in partnership with Elsevier), ADA News, the ADA Morning Huddle, and the ADA's suite of electronic newsletters including Dental Practice Success and the JADA+ Specialty Scan series. Through close contact with the market, relevant content communities, internal content partners and key external influencers, the Vice President will identify new opportunities and enhance the ADA's profile as a leading publisher of trusted oral health information. Responsibilities include content and new product development, sales and marketing, market research, distribution, strategic and business planning and P&L. This position oversees all print and digital advertising sales activities for the ADA, directing a contract sales force. The Vice President also works closely with the Editor of JADA (an independent contractor), who reports to the position.
Requirements: This position has the following minimum requirements:
A minimum of 10 years' progressive management experience in publishing/media; including experience in new product development to adapt to the shifting needs of audiences and advertisers; and managing a diverse team of employees including editorial team and sales force.
Deep knowledge of the publishing/content industry and the latest trends in digital information. Excellent oral, written and presentation, planning, leadership, project & time management, peer relationship, collaboration, analytical, business and organizational skills essential.
Must have the ability to interact with high-level executives with client-customers; exhibit business acumen; deal with ambiguity/paradox; drive for results; and solve complex issues on the fly.
Highly desirable skills include: MS or MBA; direct experience working within and successfully navigating the process channels of a mid-size to large academic, non-profit or healthcare institution; experience in or demonstrated knowledge of healthcare information management; and professional/scientific or association-based publishing experience.
