The National Office of The ALS Association is recruiting for a full-time Staff Accountant. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance the Staff Accountant will be responsible for over-all daily accounting operations and assist the Vice President of Finance with month end financial statement preparation, annual budget, and annual audit.
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Oversee accounting operations including cash receipts from Raiser’s Edge and the caging vendor.
Maintain and ensure accuracy of Daily Cash Report.
Process journal entries for all cash receipts for nationally managed chapters.
Prepare and record monthly journal entries to the general ledger and associated reconciliations for assigned accounts.
Maintain and ensure that the fixed asset list is kept up to date.
Perform duties associated with monthly closing for preparation of monthly financial statements.
Follow up on delinquent accounts and be instrumental in changing the process from a manual to an automated database.
Field requests for information regarding department reports from respective department heads as well as requests from EVP Finance and Administration.
Provides operations support to the department as required or requested.
Convey a professional and positive image that reflects favorably on The ALS Association.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Minimum of two years’ experience in accounting, preferably in a non-profit work environment.
Strong analytical and computer skills with knowledge of Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge strongly preferred.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Knowledge of financial reporting including financial statements and budget.
Understands business implications of actions.
Possess leadership skills with the ability to motivate others to perform well and influence the actions and opinions of others in a positive manner.
Ability to work on a team, exhibit objectivity and openness to other’s views, and support everyone’s efforts to succeed.
Ability to adapt to changes in the workplace and manage competing demands effectively.
Ability to work under and comply with continuous & multiple deadlines and evolving priorities. Ability to travel as required or requested.
Ability to skillfully communicate financial/accounting issues to those not particularly versed in the discipline.
Skilled communicator, with superior verbal and written skills.
Team player who enjoys interaction with professionals, peers, volunteers and those served by the organization.
