The Manager, Professional Development & Instructional Design, supports SFI’s mission by managing the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of professional development (PD) and training programs and initiatives. This position works closely with and in support of PLT’s national and international network of partners, professional development providers, and educators. Primary audiences for PLT’s PD are early childhood educators, formal K-12 educators, preservice faculty and students, non-formal educators, natural resource professionals, and youth group leaders. This position works closely with the other PLT team members.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Advise on and implement strategies for engaging new and existing audiences as part of a sustainable business model for PLT’s in-person, online, and blended PD programs, in collaboration with PLT team members, state network partners, and key stakeholders. 2. Lead the design, delivery, management, and evaluation of online and blended PD workshops for educators that reflect best practices in instructional design, address the needs of PLT’s state partners and target audiences, and meet quality standards. Administer the online delivery platforms (i.e. learning management system), create templates for customization by state partners, collaborate with and monitor participating state partners, and provide technical support as appropriate. Perform ongoing maintenance of existing content, materials, and programs to ensure continuous improvement and high-quality programs. 3. Lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of PD for PLT’s national and international network of partners, in support of these partners’ own dissemination and delivery of high-quality PD programs for educators. Provide guidance and support to network partners in ensuring their PD reflects best practices in instructional design, addresses audience needs, and meets quality standards. 4. Identify and implement creative uses of technology in the delivery of PD for educators and the PLT network of state partners. 5. Work with other members of the PLT team to identify and encourage innovative uses of technology in classrooms and outdoors, including through mobile applications, videos, gaming, and other means. 6. Advise, develop, and manage PD content for PLT’s International Coordinators’ Conference; oversee request for proposals and acceptance process; design, develop, and facilitate conference sessions; and manage the Leadership in Education awards program, in close collaboration with the Manager, PLT State Network. 7. Provide content and ideas to various aspects of PLT Communications (newsletters, conference exhibits, advertisements, printing, marketing, sales), in collaboration with PLT’s Director of Communications and other PLT team members. 8. Develop and manage PD program budget; manage project timelines and budgets; coordinate with PLT team members and subject matter experts; and manage external vendors and consultants. 9. Represent PLT at national conferences and other network events. 10. Contribute to grant proposals or other funding initiatives, as needed. 11. Contribute to other duties as assigned.
The Manager, Professional Development & Instructional Design will have a record of success and a demonstrated ability to manage the production and implementation of professional development programs. • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, instructional design, instructional technology or related field • Minimum of five years working in education or training and development field • Minimum of two years managing projects, specifically the production of multimedia • Evidence of creative uses of technology in professional development and education • Experience working in K-12 education or in close partnership with schools or school districts highly desired • Familiarity with environmental education field desired
