For over thirty years the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM), a not-for-profit organization founded in 1984, has been protecting the environment and the public’s health, safety, and security through the administration of credentials recognizing professionals who have demonstrated a high level of knowledge, expertise, and excellence in the management of hazardous materials.
Over 17,000 homeland security, environmental protection, engineering, health sciences, transportation, and public safety professionals have earned IHMM’s accredited Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) credential. IHMM also administers the Certified Hazardous Materials Practitioner (CHMP) and the Certified Dangerous Goods Professional (CDGP) credentials.
Who We Need:
IHMM is currently seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to create and implement marketing, communications and business development programs designed to increase the number of individuals certified and recertified by IHMM. The Business Development Manager represents the association before allied industry organizations, corporations and government agencies to advocate for the use of properly trained and certified professionals in the hazardous materials and dangerous goods industries. The Business Development Manager reports directly to the Executive Director and is intimately involved in most matters pertaining to the Institute’s outward face.
Responsibilities of the position include:
Increase enrollment in IHMM certification programs through the creation and implementation of marketing and advertising programs.
Oversee the maintenance and accuracy of the IHMM website.
Monitor and improve IHMM internal and external communications to ensure clarity and conformance with applicable standards, policies and procedures.
Oversee the publication of IHMM’s weekly e-newsletter in cooperation with publishing partners.
Recommend tradeshows and conferences for IHMM attendance, sponsorship and/or exhibits. Attend tradeshows and conferences and represent the association before current and potential customers.
Engage in strategic planning to identify emerging markets for IHMM products and services.
Create relationships with industry organizations and training entities at whose events IHMM certification exams may be administered.
Cultivate relationships with allied industry organizations and institutions.
Work with IHMM Certification Coordinators and finance department staff to ensure communications are clear, concise, uniform and consistent with policy.
Develop new revenue streams for the organization.
Oversee all IHMM social media programs, platforms and discussion forums.
Create text and concepts for IHMM promotional literature and coordinate the work of graphic designers, web developers and printers.
Serve as staff liaison to volunteer committees as requested.
Report on business development activities at quarterly meetings of the IHMM Board of Directors.
Recommend improvements to IHMM’s digital certification management system and other processes to increase customer service and user friendliness.
Identifies and implements process improvements and related efficiencies.
Assists with policy development and internal audit of certification processes
Assists in identifying process improvement and related activities
Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, business, or related
At least five years’ experience in sales and/or nonprofit administration with an emphasis on program development and development of new revenue streams
Strong written communication skills an absolute must
High level of proficiency with MS Office suite to include publishing-level in Word and ability to manipulate and interpret large data sets in Excel
Experience managing organizational sponsorship and exhibition at conferences/trade shows
Must be willing and able to travel as much as 50% during busy periods, including occasional international travel (must have passport or be able to obtain one)
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
Experience developing new inter-organizational partnerships, negotiating formal agreements
Master’s Degree in a relevant area
Experience within the environmental management or cargo industries, especially nonprofit/NGO
Familiarity with ACGI Certelligence software platform
Graphic design experience and proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, and/or Illustrator
Proficiency with Drupal web Content Management System
