Roles & Responsibilities
The executive director reports to the board of directors and is responsible for managing the association’s staff and day-to-day operations. In this capacity the executive director does the following:
For the Board of Directors:
Works collaboratively with the board of directors to develop, manage and monitor specific, written, long and short-range plans for the development of AANC programs and services.
Maintains appropriate relations with the board and various committees and keeps them informed.
Works collaboratively with the board of directors to develop, and keeps updated, policies for the effective and economical operation of AANC and its programs.
Ensures implementation of the policies adopted by the board.
Provides administrative support to the board by providing agenda-planning, scheduling, board orientation and training programs, financial reports, maintenance of board records (meeting minutes, financial reports, etc.) and other board-specific tasks as needed.
Works with the treasurer to prepare AANC’s budget and is accountable for control of these resources once approved.
Directs all financial operations of AANC.
Has the primary administrative responsibility for the maintenance of AANC facilities, and regular reporting to various bodies.
Carries chief staff responsibility to ensure that legal obligations of AANC are met.
For AANC Staff:
Develops and regularly updates an employee manual.
Supervises and directs key staff in the performance of their duties.
Evaluates the performance of key staff members.
Provides overall control of and direction for the personnel of AANC, including active participation in or approval of personnel actions.
Manages volunteer staff activities.
In the area of member services, the executive director:
Evaluates the services being provided by AANC in relation to specific goals and standards, and recommends modifications where appropriate.
Recommends new programs to the board.
Directs staff in developing, providing and evaluating all member services. These include, but are not limited to, publications, educational opportunities and events.
In the areas of advocacy and public outreach the executive director:
Maintains appropriate relations with other professional and service groups in the community.
Maintains appropriate relations with federal, state and local government units.
Maintains appropriate relations with other agencies in similar fields of service.
Effectively manages, supports and communicates with, any professional service providers (lobbyists, legal counsel, PR agencies, etc.)
Identifies and interprets trends in the areas of interest in which AANC is engaged and recommends appropriate actions to the board.
Provides direct lobbying services when appropriate.
Provides appropriate support to the AANC PAC.
